INSPARATIONAL PEOPLE - VICTORIA HUMPHRIES
We interviewed some of our favourite inSPArational men and women that 'rock our boat', and inspire us.
Here's what Victoria Humphries - member of the first all women's expedition to the North Pole, mum, after dinner speaker and MD told us...
SO WHAT'S IN YOUR HANDBAG AT THE MOMENT - ANYTHING YOU CAN TELL US ABOUT?
Everything apart from the kitchen sink: Screwdriver, penknife, tape measure, suncream (a tad optimistic?!), tons of contact lens stuff, notepad, plastic bags, first aid kit, teabags, keys for the office & for my mother in law and then all the usual stuff as well!
FAVOURITE WAY TO RELAX?
Walking, fresh air, skiing, wine, reading.
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
Two things: 1. Never ever give up! 2. Say yes to a challenge and then work out how to do it later, if you delay the decision someone else will get there first!
BBT - BEST BEAUTY TIPS?
Cucumber Face wipes and Face cream - I've used them for 20+ years and never touched anything else.
PREFER TO HANG OUT WITH THE GIRLS OR THE BOYS?
Both - girls as long as they're not too girly and boys as long as they're not chauvinistic pigs! Ultimately anyone who is outdoorsy and up for a challenge.
DREAM DINNER GUESTS - WHO WOULD YOU HAVE AND WHY?
Colin Firth (because I fancy him), Sean Connery & Harrison Ford (because i fancy them too), Ernest Shackleton (he's my hero), Jeffrey Archer (I'm fascinated by his rise, fall and rise and would love to know about Commons, Lords, prison & being an author), Kelly Holmes/Denise Lewis/Jessica Ennis (one or more of them - all are successful athletes who I admire), Benjamin Disraeli and/or William Gladstone (I've always been interested in 19th Century politics and would love to meet them).
WHAT WOULD YOU EAT?
Starter - Seafood Platter, Main - Fillet Steak, Pudding - Fresh fruit platter of tropical fruit, Wine - Sauvignon Blanc, Rioja or Merlot followed by dessert wine and port.
FAVOURITE FILM & WHY?
Sound of Music - the ultimate feel good movie.
WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO AT THE MOMENT?
Whatever music my 11 year old son plays at full volume.
BEST HOLIDAY
I would love to go back to South America, but anywhere that isn't a big city and preferably without too many tourists. If i'm allowed an adventure then it has to be back to the Arctic or the opportunity to check out Antarctica.
SUNRISE OR SUNSET?
Ooh, difficult one. Sunrise as it signals the start of another wonderful day and Sunset as it often means a glass of wine in one's hand!
SPRING OR AUTUMN?
Another tricky one! Spring because my son was born in March and I always associate daffodils with his birth and Autumn because I love the one of winter and knowing that you'll soon get to be able to curl up in front of the fire on a Saturday evening.
SKI OR SUN?
Skiing (but I love sun as well).
SUMMER OR WINTER CLOTHES? AND WHY?
Tricky again - I love both. Summer clothes as I love having bare feet and legs (though it does mean you have to keep up to date with the waxing!) and wearing floaty skirts and winter clothes as I love jeans & boots.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU LAUGHED SO HARD IT HURT?
Not sure, but I laugh a lot at work and at home my husband & son are always playing the fool and make me laugh!
GUILTY PLEASURE?
A spoonful of peanut butter taken straight out of the jar without anyone knowing.
ANT OR DEC?
I can never tell the difference, can I have both?
SURPRISE US - TELL US A SECRET, WE PROMISE NOT TO TELL!
I once went on a playdate having forgotten to put on any underwear. It was winter and we went tobogganing - I can still remember how cold & embarrassing it was. I was only about 8 years old!
